Flushing Town Hall Presents a Strong Female Lineup in Fall/Winter 2018 Season

This Fall/Winter season, Flushing Town Hall presents a strong lineup of female performers, highlighting the diverse talent of women in the arts. Jazz has traditionally been a male-dominated field, but Flushing Town Hall proudly showcases women who are influential in the genre. The popular Monthly Jazz Jams series returns, led by local jazz legend Carol Sudhalter. This season’s lineup also includes four Lioness events, an appropriately-named concert series featuring women in jazz, curated by Convergence Arts.

Women are also prominent in global arts events this season, including Banda Magda (Sept 21), a global music group led by Greek musician Magda Gannikou. Diwali Festival: Kathak, Bhangra, & Beyond returns on November 10, featuring Kathak classical dancer Abha Roy and Basement Bhangra’s DJ Rekha. FEI Music: A Fusion Music Concert on December 2, is led by award-winning musician Feifei Yang.

Other shows featuring talented female performers include New York Classical Players: Jasmine Plays Needham (Sept 27), Andrea Brachfield Quartet (Oct 12), and Light and Beat: Art of Korean Drumming (Nov 9) led by Korean traditional janggu virtuoso Kim So Ra.

Tickets to all shows can be purchased at www.flushingtownhall.org or by calling (718) 463-7700 x222.

Flushing Town Hall is accessible by car, bus, train and foot – located a short distance from the 7 train – at 137-35 Northern Blvd., in Flushing, Queens. Access for wheelchair users and individuals with limited mobility is available.

Once again, Flushing Town Hall is opening its doors to teenagers – for free. Under the “Teen Access Program,” all 13- to 19-year-old boys and girls (whether a member or not) will be welcomed to attend any performance for free. The program is designed to appeal to students and help foster a greater love in the arts and culture.
