The Danny DeGennaro Foundation has made a name for itself throughout the greater Philadelphia area for finding and mentoring young artists and musicians. Now the nonprofit organization is taking its show on the road – with its talent in tow – to assist Flushing Town Hall with a Nov. 4 benefit concert, “Fragrance of the Moon V” at the popular venue.
The Danny DeGennaro Foundation, which started in 2014 and is named for the late Kingfish musician, Danny DeGennaro, has a dual role in the concert. First, some of the foundation’s artists and student artists are creating a stunning 10-foot-by-30-foot-wide backdrop for the concert. Foundation mentors and artists have set the stage with other one-of-a-kind backdrops, including eye-catching images of the Philadelphia skyline.
In addition to setting the aesthetics of the stage, the foundation’s young talented musicians, including singer Cara Cartney, accompanied by saxophone player and Danny DeGennaro Foundation mentor Mike Reinig will perform. Joining them onstage is 2017 Danny DeGennaro Foundation music scholarship award winner Katelyn Cryan. The foundation has been mentoring Cartney and helping in the recording of an EP. Mentors continue supporting Cryan’s live performances at her alma mater, Bucks County Community College, as well as other venues in the Philadelphia area.
The foundation is also mentoring Hot Curtis, a band of young musicians that the Danny DeGennaro Foundation is assisting in the studio and through live performances, including the Nov. 4 event.
Rock band Steal Your Face will headline the event. All Lit Up will open the show. In addition to foundation musicians and artists, the benefit for Flushing community activities will be hosted by Dr Hsing- Lih Chou and Joann Hsieh. The show offers something for everyone, including hard rock, jazz and pop music.
The benefit concert is open to people age 21 years old and up, and will run from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Flushing Town Hall, located at 137-35 Northern Boulevard, Flushing. Prices range from $30 for balcony seats, $70 for orchestra seats, and $100 for box seating. VIP tickets cost $200 and include admission to a 6:00 PM reception with cocktails. To purchase tickets, visit www.flushingtownhall.org or call 718-463-7700 Ext. 222.
Since its inception in 2014, the Danny DeGennaro Foundation’s mission is to find and improve upon the creative inspiration in Philadelphia-area musicians and artists. To that end, the foundation provides annual music and art scholarships to students of Bucks County Community College. The organization also uses its network of seasoned professionals to continue mentoring young musicians and artists and presenting new opportunities for exposure, including studio recording time, live performances, as well as avenues to display art publicly.
