The Great Northeast Cheese Fest Returns to Flushing on December 2

Save the date for the premiere cheese and dairy event of the season as The Great Northeast Cheese & Dairy Fest returns to Queens for the third year in a row. Top toques and top tommes will once more turn historic Flushing Town Hall into a cheese lover’s paradise.

Top chefs, including Hugue Dufour of M. Wells Steakhouse, will create exquisite cheese-highlighted dishes at 2017’s premier cheese event, The Great Northeast Cheese Fest on Saturday, December 2nd at historic Flushing Town Hall from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Artisanal creameries, including Danascara Cheese (Fonda, N.Y.), Tumino Cheese Co. (King Ferry, N.Y.) and Mohawk Drumlin Creamery (St. Johnsville, N.Y.) will have guests sampling the Northeast’s finest cheeses from nutty sheep’s milk tommes and Cheddars to luscious triple cremes and tangy goat cheeses. For the first time ever international cheeses, including those from Italy and Portugal, will be showcased as the popular festival returns. In addition to such Portuguese cheeses as Queijo Serra da Estrela there will be luscious Portuguese charcuterie including jamon de pata negra from Rodrigo Duarte of Caseiro e Bom (Newark, N.J.).

This year’s chefs and restaurants include Hugue Dufour (M. Wells Steakhouse, Long Island City, Queens), Alfonso Zhicay (Casa del Chef, Woodside, Queens), Areperia Arepa Lady (Jackson Heights, Queens), Honey Pig Donut Co. (Whitestone, Queens), and SugarCube (Long Island City, Queens).

This year’s beverage lineup, curated by cider expert Daniel Pucci, will feature craft beer from Long Island City’s new Fifth Hammer Brewing Co. as well as exquisite ciders and wines. “Cider and cheese are natural partners, Pucci notes. “Cider’s low alcohol, acid and tannin makes it a perfect accompaniment to countless cheeses and cured meats. Cider has backbone, structure and acid that keeps the drinker focused on the snack at hand.”

“As a Queens guy I’m so excited to see such a high level of involvement on the part of Queens restaurants and brewers,” said Joe DiStefano, vice president of New York Epicurean Events. “The best local and international cheeses paired with the best libations make this an event not to be missed.”

Guests will have an opportunity to savor cheeses and learn about them from their makers. Pairings will include top-rated wines, craft beers, and farmstead ciders. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase cheeses from the creameries directly at the event and take them home.

A $60 general admission ticket entitles guests to unlimited tasting and sampling of all food and craft beverages.

Additionally, there will be $100 VIP tickets sold, which will allow access to a special hour from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. enabling guests to enjoy exclusive culinary demonstrations and learn about cheeses from renowned cheese experts.

“Everybody from bona fide curd nerds to cheese enthusiasts will find something to savor and enjoy,” said DiStefano.
