Introducing Gala Honoree John Choe

Flushing Town Hall will hold its 38th Anniversary Gala this Thursday, April 20th, and one of our esteemed honorees is John Choe, Executive Director of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce.

“Our annual gala is an opportunity to recognize those who have made considerable contributions to support Flushing Town Hall and the greater community,” community, said Ellen Kodadek, Executive and Artistic Director at Flushing Town Hall. “As always, this will be an evening of entertainment, excitement, and inspiration, and will provide celebrants with a taste of all that we have to offer year-round.”

During his tenure, Mr. Choe has launched innovative programs, including: Flushing Night Out a community night market in downtown Flushing; Flushing Commercial District Needs Assessment and Neighborhood 360 Program in collaboration with the New York City Department of Small Business Services; Flushing Lending Circle Program in collaboration with Chhaya CDC; English Now! and Flushing Tech Boot Camp in collaboration with Monroe College; the Flushing Livable Neighborhood Program in collaboration with the Municipal Art Society; and a greenmarket at Maple Playground in collaboration with GrowNYC.

Mr. Choe previously served as founding director of One Flushing, director of policy for the​ New York City Comptroller​, chief of staff at the New York City Council​ District 20, director of operations at the Department of Finance, research associate at the Rent Guidelines Board, and assistant program officer​ at the Corporation​ ​for Supportive Housing​. He volunteers on the board of directors of the Flushing​ ​Interfaith Council, as presiding clerk of Flushing Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, and as a core team member of Flushing CSA (Community Supported Agriculture).

He received a​ ​Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Binghamton University​as a New York State Regents Scholar, and a Master’s in Public Policy from the University of​ ​Chicago as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow in Public Affairs & International Relations. He also completed the post-graduate Revson Fellowship for the City of New York at Columbia University.
