Introducing Davidson Garrett

Davidson Garrett, a poet, is known as King Lear of the Taxi.DavidsonGarrett

This coming Saturday, Davidson will participate in Flushing Town Hall’s third annual LGBTQ Voices event launching Pride Month in Queens. The event starts at 5:00 PM in Diversity Plaza between 74th Street and Main Street in Jackson Heights The event is supported by New York City Council Member Daniel Dromm.

Davidson has been a New York City yellow taxi driver for more than three dozen years, and has read his poetry at venues such as the LGBTQ Center in Manhattan, the CUNY Graduate School, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Joe’s Pub, Dixon Place, and – for eight years – at the Poetry Salon of the Rainbow Bookfair. Davidson trained for the theater at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts and is a graduate of The City College of New York.

He is the author of three books of poetry and has been published in many literary journals. His taxi garage is Queens Midtown in Long Island City, and he lives in Manhattan.
