Traveling Musically Along the Yangtze River

Throughout Chinese civilization, a rich musical culture flourished along the southern banks of the Yangtze River. Beginning
in the Tang dynasty, the pipa travelled along the Silk Road
from northwest China.

When the pipa reached the Jiangnan region, its unique timbre blended with melodious southern music.

Pipa virtuoso Zhou Yi of Ba Ban Chinese Music Society will guide the audience through the music of southern China in her program, Ba Ban Chinese Music Society: Along the Yangtze River, on Saturday, May 14th.

Just prior to the performance, participants will learn about Chinese music and the philosophy behind it. Participants will get hands-on experience with Chinese instruments.
